We could tell even then that it was a vastly superior improvement over our roller derby skates. Too bad I didn't invest my paper route money in them back then. Pollack ripped off the Kings by trading Ralph to the Kings and stealing their first round pick either LaFleur or Dionne. Wow, Kings GM was such a sucker. cadvan3https://www.blogger.com/profile/14746618485651056135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28304287.post-5295801875038095812013-11-30T15:55:10.125-08:002013-11-30T15:55:10.125-08:00I played with Ralph with Lions Club in Kirkland. They had a couple of guys sweeping the parking lot. Stu Nahan, a very popular sportscaster was there with a camera man. All of us watching were amazed how much speed Ralph was able to get on those wheels and then he hit a stone? pebble? and became airborne. That was the end of that session. A great memory. <br /> George S.George S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02023422220856376783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28304287.post-53231326637512244302011-10-03T18:43:46.637-07:002011-10-03T18:43:46.637-07:00My Dad, a very astute hockey man, greatly liked Ra...My Dad, a very astute hockey man, greatly liked Ralph Backstrom . . because Ralph played the game the way it was supposed to be played!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28304287.post-49010715870315483022010-04-03T07:52:56.309-07:002010-04-03T07:52:56.309-07:00Greatest third-line centre in the history of the g...Greatest third-line centre in the history of the game. He was the innovator of 4 on 4 play (now used in overtime by the NHL) and, most importantly, the shootout to determine the winners of a tied contest. You want to continue the evolution of the game?
